Recently, the Syrian refugee crisis hit a critical milestone. United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees Antonio Guterres announced that the number of registered refugees from the war-torn Middle Eastern country has passed one million. Most of them are in Turkey, Jordan and Lebanon. Lebanon, a small country with only four million people, has a long history of sectarian tensions. Now, with its population increased by around 10 percent, the war in Syria threatens Lebanon’s future with specters of its past.
