Thailand’s prime minister, Yingluck Shinawatra, has said she will not step down from power. For weeks, protesters have called for her to resign, saying they want to replace her with a “people’s prime minister.” Her party has been accused of corruption. But Shinawatra says she needs to remain in power until new elections are held in February. Michael Montesano, a visiting research fellow at the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies in Singapore, gives us an update on the political turmoil in Thailand.
