The sprawling migrant camp just outside of Calais, France, has come to be known as ‘The Jungle’. The camp, which is close to the Port of Calais, is the last stop for many hoping to seek asylum in the United Kingdom. The camp is one of the largest in Europe, and organizations like the UNHCR have been critical of the conditions there. But a group of UK musicians has found something else in The Jungle. Musical inspiration. Vanessa Lucas Smith is the project director for the The Calais Sessions. They spent time recording in the Jungle and are in the process of putting out an album on iTunes called The Calais Sessions.
