An imam charged with allegedly abusing an employee at his Elgin Islamic school appeared in court this morning. Mohammed Abdullah Saleem’s also accused in a lawsuit of abusing several young women when they were students at the school years ago. Nadiah Mohahir of Heart Women and Girls and social psychologist Dr. Sara Nasserzadeh join us to talk about why it took so long for these cases to become public, and what’s led to the culture of silence around abuse in the Muslim community and larger society.
