Discovery Channel is in the midst of its 25th annual Shark Week. With an estimated 30 million viewers tuning in, conservationists are seizing the opportunity to shine light on some alarming issues. Researchers say finning, the practice of cutting off a shark’s fins so they can be used to make a delicacy, shark fin soup, is one of the main reasons that as many as one third of all shark species face some threat of extinction.
