An opera that’s getting its Chicago premiere takes a look at a difficult subject through an unusual lens. “The Passenger” is set partly in Auschwitz during World War II. Mezzo soprano Daveda Karanas is part of the recent revival of this work. She’s here to give us a unique glimpse into the history of this tragic period in history, and the twisting path of the opera itself. PHOTO: Courtesy of the Lyric Opera of Chicago
