Illinois prisoners rely on grievances to flag dangerous conditions, from guard abuse to unsanitary conditions and poor medical care. But with virtually no oversight, the system leaves thousands of prisoners vulnerable to harm, according to a new investigation from WBEZ and ProPublica’s Local Reporting Network.
