Chicago recovered from a polar vortex earlier this month, but temperatures have dipped into the 20s this week. Many locals are thinking of traveling somewhere south, to a warmer climate. The southern hemisphere is in the middle of summer this time of year.
Nina Kokotas Hahn, a local travel writer, recently escaped the Chicago winter and just returned from Antarctica. At the Palmer Research Station, the temperature has hovered around 34 degrees this week with 20 hours of sunshine per day.
Antarctic biologist James B. McClintock has spent a lot of time at Palmer Center. Author of Lost Antarctica, he was one of the many climate scientists that traveled on Hahn’s expedition.
Hahn joins Worldview to discuss how you can visit Antarctica, and McClintock will also join to talk about the effects of climate change on our earth’s poles.
