One of the mildest winters in Chicago history could mean some budget savings for the city of Chicago—fewer snowplows, less salt, less overtime for drivers—but it’s too early to tell. 

In an email, a spokeswoman from the city’s Streets and Sanitation department points out that snow is “not uncommon,” even in April. 

The city’s budget also runs on a calendar year, so this year’s budget has to cover any snow next December.
