President Trump has signed what the administration calls the “Energy Independence Executive Order.”

The Trump administration said government agencies will identify and target for elimination any rules that restrict U.S. production of energy. The E.P.A. will begin the process of dismantling the Clean Power Plan, the Obama administration’s strategy to meet the Paris Climate Accord target of reducing carbon emissions by at least 26 percent by 2025.

We hear from Rhea Suh, the president of the Natural Resources Defense Council. She calls the new policy “a senseless betrayal of our national interest” and “an all-out assault on the protections we need to avert climate catastrophe.”
