The Trump administration is considering cutting the number of refugees the United States accepts next year by more than 40 percent, government officials said. Last year, President Trump set the cap at 45,000, a historic low; however, the latest plan would limit the number of refugees granted resettlement in the U.S. to 25,000 — its lowest level in about four decades. Stephen Miller, the president’s senior policy adviser, has been a driving force behind the anti-immigration agenda. He says the vetting process for refugees is too extensive and compromises national security.
