“Don’t go to college.” Not necessarily the kind of advice you want your teenager to hear. But that’s exactly the message members of Chicago band Twin Peaks were getting not long after graduating high school in 2012. They were touring behind their debut album – the self-released cassette Sunken – and the accolades and encouragement came pouring in. They eventually went to college – but not for long. After a semester, they dropped out. They moved back home to Chicago, played South By Southwest Music Fest and media attention behind Twin Peaks has been steady (and nearly universally glowing) ever since. Earlier this month they did a proper release of their debut. It came out on L.A.-based Autumn Tone Records, and reviews of that, too, have been positive. It seems that the decision to drop out of college and follow their rock n roll dreams is proving to be a smart one… for now, anyway. Twin Peaks drop by the Morning Shift to talk, perform and show us what tossing caution to the wind sounds like when pumped through distorted pedals and amplified to the max.
