To play on a World Cup national soccer team, a player must be a citizen of that country. But most World Cup players don’t regularly play in the nation of their World Cup team. Some hold dual citizenship. The U.S. team has several dual-nationals on its team- many are Americans recruited from abroad. It’s a phenomenon that isn’t unique to the U.S. team. We’ll discuss the issue with Michael Madero, assistant coach for the University of Chicago’s men’s soccer team. He joins us from Brazil. Jon Bohland, associate professor of political science and international studies at Hollins University will also tell us whether he thinks a player’s loyalty is ever in question.
