Chicago police have charged two juveniles with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of an Illinois congressman’s grandson following an argument over a pair of basketball shoes.

Javon Wilson, the 15 year-old grandson of U.S. Representative Danny Davis, was killed Friday evening in his Englewood home.

The two suspects in the case have not been identified, though police say one is a 16 year-old male and the other is a 17 year-old female.

Police say the attackers entered Wilson’s home and began arguing over the basketball shoes. One of the juveniles then opened fire and hit Wilson in the head.

Rep. Davis said he grieves not only for his grandson who was killed, but for other family members who were at the house when he was shot.

“I guess we’d say the process goes on, but I have no sense of consolation in the fact that the individuals have been apprehended and will go through the judicial process,” he said.

Davis says that he was already concerned about gun violence before it hit his own family.

Police say bond for the offenders will be set in bond court later today.
