The winners of this year’s MacArthur Fellowships were announced this week and of the 24 so-called MacArthur Genius Grants, three went to Chicagoans. Latoya Ruby Frazier is a documentary photographer and filmmaker who teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Juan Salgado is the head of a community organization working with immigrants on the city’s West Side. And John Novembre is a computational biologist. Just in case you don’t know what that is (we didn’t), Novembre joins the show to discuss his work and plans to spend the money.
