Cities in developing countries like India are growing very quickly. For example, in 1991, Hyderabad had a population of just over three million. Today, its metropolitan area has more than nine million people. This boom has wreaked havoc on Hyderabad’s traffic infrastructure and mass transit systems. The Hyderabad Urban Lab researches cities “in a way that is going to be meaningful for the general public,” and looks for ways to address the city’s problems.
