While much of the developing world has passed legislation to label genetically modified ingredients in food, the United States lags behind. Last week at a conference in the Chicago area, British environmentalist and author Mark Lynas added a new wrinkle to the debate. Just nine months after making international headlines by publicly switching from GMO opponent to GMO supporter, Lynas shocked food industry representatives by saying that they should get behind mandatory federal GMO labeling.
