According to the United Nations, almost 400,000 people in the Central African Republic have been “displaced” since December of last year, and nearly 70,000 more have been forced to take refuge in neighboring countries. Sectarian violence there has continued to escalate, and close to 400 people were recently killed in a span of three days in the country’s capital, Bangui. France has deployed troops in an effort to restore peace, and on Monday, United States Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel announced that the U.S. would help in transporting troops there.
