A U-N human rights report found that schools in at least 70 countries were attacked in the past five years. Many of those attacks were targeted at school girls, as well as their parents and teachers. The report notes incidents like Boko Haram’s abduction of nearly 300 school girls, poisoning and acid attacks in Afghanistan, and the kidnapping and rape of girls at a school in India. Diya Nijhowne, director of the Global Coalition to Protect Education from Attack, joins us to talk about why these attacks happen.
