WBEZ is celebrating 25 years of independent broadcasting. Before 1990, the station was an extension of the Chicago Board of Education. But in 1990, Chicago Public Media acquired the WBEZ license and broke free, becoming the independent, non-profit media organization we are today. Some of the people who made that move happened reflect on the station as it was and what that move meant. In the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing some of our favorite moments from the past two decades: interviews and stories that highlight who we are. You can listen to some of those moments now at WBEZ.org/25.
