By WeekenderMaybe it’s the fall weather that’s got me itching to move before hibernation season sets in. Maybe the full moon has me restless? Whatever - I’ve got walking on the brain. So do others - protestors are on a two week hike from New York to Washington, DC called Occupy the Highway. Writer and scientist Loreen Niewenhuis recently staved off a midlife crisis by walking around the perimeter of Lake Michigan. Back in 1974 filmaker Werner Herzog walked from Munich to Paris - an undertaking he thought would save a seriously ill friend. His diary of that journey is like a film in writing. To find out why walking can be a political or personal cure read this. Or head out yourself! Steve Jones of the University of Illinois at Chicago is leading a ‘sound walk’ of some historic campus buildings. That’s just one of my picks for your weekend - start winding your way through other choices below!
