Jean Luc Godard’s 1968 film Weekend is exactly the weekend you DON’T want to have!  A couple jumps in the car, heads to the country, hits the mother of all traffic jams and then?  Mayhem, murder, and cannibalism!  What is it about a couple of days off from the grind that provokes anxiety in filmmakers?  In The Lost Weekend Ray Milland falls off the wagon – hard.  Weekend at Bernie’s involves toting around a corpse and avoiding an assassin – played for laughs.  And Chicagoan Joe Swanberg explores the pains of a long distance relationship in Nights and Weekends.  Now I’m pretty sure heading out to see Godard’s movie this weekend at the Gene Siskel Film Center won’t involve people trying to eat you for supper.  But if you want to play it safe – here are a few other ideas to fill your Friday through Sunday.
