In the summer of 1938, Adolf Hitler was feeling like a great success. He was going to restore Germany’s power, no matter what the rest of the world said. He’d put troops in the Rhineland, on the border with France. He’d swallowed up Austria and made it a part of Germany. Now he had his eye on the Sudetenland, the western part of Czechoslovakia. Historian John Schmidt tells us what happened next.
