In the U.S., men are two-to-four times more likely to make a bicycle trip than women. Just one-quarter of bicycle commuters nationwide are women. But in the Netherlands, more women use bikes as a means of transportation. The theory has been that it’s because biking infrastructure in the Netherlands is better, so women feel more comfortable using bikes. But a new study takes that theory to task. We’ll talk with Kelcie Ralph, co-author of a UCLA study, “Honey Can You Pick Up Groceries on Your Way Home?
