I’ve never been so excited to get my prescriptions filled. That’s because starting Friday, after you run errands at the CVS at the corner of Division and Ashland, you’ll be able to head downstairs, into an 8,000 square foot den of marble and terra cotta, and sip cocktails or nibble on elevated Midwestern comfort food at The Bedford. Chef Mark Steuer (formerly of Hot Chocolate) will focus on seasonal dishes, utilizing as many local purveyors and artisans as possible. Think Butcher and Larder, Hoosier Mama Pie Company and Black Dog Gelato.

The highlight will no doubt be the vault room, filled with floor-to-ceiling lockboxes and a furniture spread worthy of Metropolitan Home. Makes me think about one of my favorite Twilight Zone episodes, “Time Enough at Last” - the one where Burgess Meredith gets locked in a bank vault and survives a nuclear explosion. The only difference here is that this sounds like the kind of vault where you would emerge fully sated and a little tipsy.

The Bedford is located at 1612 W. Division St.
