On May 11, 1960, Adolph Eichmann was captured in Argentina. After World War II ended in 1945, various German Nazi leaders were put on trial by the victorious Allies. Most of the Nazis were found guilty of war crimes or crimes against humanity, and given prison terms. The most notorious men were executed. Adolf Eichmann was never one of the Nazi leaders. He was a middle-level SS officer with a bureaucratic job. But that job was implementing the Final Solution—the mass murder of Jews and other so-called undesirables. Historian John Schmidt reminds of how Eichmann was finally brought to justice. (Photo: AP/File)
