The United Nations’ 2007 World Drug Report says: "The world's drug problem is being contained…This does not mean that the drug problem has been solved or that we can become complacent. Nor is the good news universal…But overall, we seem to have reached a point where the world drug situation has stabilized and been brought under control."

Today, we'll look into the history of the illicit drug trade with Alfred McCoy. Over 20 years ago he wrote The Politcs of Heroin in Southeast Asia . McCoy updated the book in 2003. It's now called, The Politics of Heroin: CIA Complicity in the Global Drug Trade. Alfred is Professor of Southeast Asian History at the University of Wisconsin-Madison .
