China's military budget went up fifteen percent last year. That's not unusual. There have been double digit increases for two decades now. Chinese Army officials have clamored for ever greater increases after the latest US military package to Taiwan. But even with all those impressive growth numbers China's military budget is still a small fraction of the US defense budget.

In fact, the US has such disproportionate military power that observers are more worried about a different kind of threat from China. James Fallows is a Correspondent for the Atlantic Magazine. His most recent article in the March edition is “Cyber Warriors”. Fallows is a familiar voice for his contributions to NPR over the years.
