Tatsu Aoki’s Tsukasa Taiko is one the longest running multigenerational ensembles of traditional Japanese taiko drum music. He’s been based in Chicago for most of his career (which includes combining avant-garde jazz with taiko drumming as well) and the Museum of Contemporary Art is hosting the annual Taiko Legacy concerts this weekend. For this week’s Global Notes, Jerome McDonnell and Catalina Maria Johnson of Vocalo’s Beat Latino sits down with Tatsu Aoki to discuss the group’s history and legacy here in Chicago and around the world. We will also hear some music from the performers live in studio
