Alternative schools are awarding CPS diplomas to some high school dropouts

An investigation by WBEZ and Catalyst Chicago shows that some CPS dropouts are getting diplomas from a new kind of “alternative school” where the coursework happens mostly online. At some of the schools, students say they can finish credits in a matter of weeks. And perhaps most surprising of all, the students who graduate from them still get a CPS diploma. WBEZ’s Becky Vevea and Catalyst Chicago’s Sarah Karp broke this story and they join us in studio.
