A closer look at new CPD chief Garry McCarthy's policing experience

On Monday, Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel named his choice to lead the Chicago Police Department. Garry McCarthy comes with big city policing experience. Before he led Newark, New Jersey’s, police force, McCarthy helped bring down crime in New York City. He was also on the scene in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks.

How will those experiences help McCarthy navigate Chicago crime and politics? For answers, Eight Forty-Eight turned to Pulitzer Prize- winning journalist Frank Main. He reports on crime for the Chicago Sun-Times.
