When initial reports circulated that Chicago Board President Michael Scott took his own life last year many of his colleagues and friends reacted with disbelief. But can we ever understand why someone – whether a remote public figure or a close loved one – would take their own life? At the time of Scott’s death last year, Alison Cuddy talked with philosopher Stephen Asma about that issue. Asma says there are a number of reasons that hinder us from making any sense of suicide.
