This summer WBEZ featured the series After the Wars. Veterans from different conflicts shared their personal experiences of war through photographs and through their own memories.

Theodore Peters was one of those profiled and he lives in the Chicago area. He was just a teenager when he was drafted during World War II. And he was one of the first black Americans to serve in the Marine Corps.

Bill Stenberg says he was just talking to a friend when he decided to enlist in the military. He was deployed to Korea where he fought on the front line and was wounded.
