Time and time again, people frustrated by the irregular words and awkward phrases in our modern languages have tried to make it better by creating other languages. Oddly, those efforts have mostly failed. But that hasn’t stopped linguist Arika Okrent from becoming fascinated with them. The Chicago native has written a book called In the Land of Invented Languages: Esperanto Rock Stars, Klingon Poets, Loglan Lovers and the Mad Dreamers Who Tried to Build A Perfect Language.
