Big changes could be in store for Chicago Public Schools. At an emergency Chicago Board of Education meeting yesterday the board authorized measures aimed at slashing the district’s whopping budget deficit. Chicago Public Schools CEO Ron Huberman now has the option to increase class sizes lay off more than 2,700 teachers and borrow $800 million to help pay the school district’s bills. To put the news into context, we’re joined by Linda Lenz, the founder and publisher of Catalyst Chicago, an independent newsmagazine that covers Chicago Public Schools.
