Down Beat Magazine Celebrates 75th Anniversary
Seventy-five years ago this month, Down Beat, an iconic American magazine, was born. Today it not only survives, but remains a thriving part of the Chicago area landscape. It has mapped the shifting course of American music, covering what its editors call jazz, blues, and beyond. Since 1968, John McDonough has contributed reviews and commentary to Down Beat. Today he brings us this appreciation of the self-proclaimed musician's bible.
