The new film Amreeka is set in the United States after the 2003 invasion of Iraq. It’s about someone coming to America as those events are unfolding, and it shows us the experience through her eyes. The film’s writer and director Cherien Dabis can relate to a degree, as she tells Alison Cuddy.
