Those concerned about the education of Chicago’s young people know the problem isn’t just with our elementary and high schools. Higher education in Chicago is also facing tough times; City Colleges of Chicago may lose hundreds of positions this year. Officials have said cuts would most affect administrators, as they try to consolidate personnel across the seven colleges and avoid a tuition hike. That job – cutting costs while maintaining and even improving quality – falls on City Colleges chancellor Cheryl Hyman.
