We talk with historian and filmmaker Suzanne Wasserman about her cousin, Janet Jagan. Jagan died on Saturday at the age of 88. She was born and raised in Chicago, but went on to become the first woman president of Guyana. Wasserman’s documentary, Thunder in Guyana, recounts Jagan’s life and her 1997 election to the presidency.
