The Illinois Lottery raked in a record-setting $2.2 billion last fiscal year. Now plans are underway to increase profits by changing things up. In 2009, the Illinois General Assembly voted to let a private company run the lottery and last week Governor Quinn announced that Northstar Lottery Group has won the lucrative contract. The state will still own the lottery, and the Illinois Department of Revenue and the Lottery Superintendent will continue to provide oversight. We talk with Illinois Lottery Superintendent Jodie Winnett to find out more about how the deal will work.
