Rallying for immigration is becoming a May Day tradition in the United States. This weekend proved no different. Groups around the country gathered to protest the lack of federal action on immigration policy. The demonstrations also included those in favor of tighter border security and stepped-up enforcement policies.

In some places things got heated. In fact our congressional representative Luis Gutierrez was arrested in Washington. What has everyone charged up this time around is the state of Arizona’s new law, which allows police to question anyone they believe may be in the state illegally. Now reform and enforcement are sometimes viewed as mutually exclusive approaches to illegal immigration. But one Illinois Republican has come out firmly in support of both. Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran explains.
