Collaboration is nothing new for legendary gospel singer Mavis Staples. She started her music career with what some might consider the toughest co-workers – her relatives. That’s back when she sang with The Staples Singers, a group led by her father, Pops Staples. Since branching out on her own Mavis has paired up with almost everyone - from Bob Dylan to Prince. So another partnership isn’t odd. But would you have pictured Staples connecting with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy? Tweedy not only produced but wrote a couple of tracks for Staples’ latest – You Are Not Alone. Richard Steele sits down with Staples to learn about this collaboration, and what else the artist is working on.
