Eula Biss is white, but she considers herself part of a mixed family, teaching in Harlem and working for an African-American newspaper. She’s written about her experiences as a white minority in predominantly black spaces in the new book Notes from No Man’s Land: American Essays. The collection of essays is the winner of the Graywolf Press Nonfiction Prize.
