Mark Caro and the Fight over Foie Gras

Chicago's 2006 ordinance to ban foie gras made headlines far beyond the Windy City. It inspired lawmakers in other states to debate whether force-feeding birds to enlarge their livers is animal torture or a standard agricultural practice confined to a few small farms around the country. Chicago Tribune reporter Mark Caro recounts the fight in his new book, The Foie Gras Wars: How a 5,000-Year-Old Delicacy Inspired the World's Fiercest Food Fight.
