It’s been some time since literary studies stuck to the classics - authors like Melville, Dickinson or Twain. But some professors have pushed the boundaries of their courses even further. Now graphic novels are making regular appearances in literature classes. That comics are now considered worthy of study and analysis is in no small part due to the work of artists like Oak Park resident Chris Ware. In fact an entire anthology dedicated to dissecting Ware’s work has just come out. The Comics of Chris Ware: Drawing is a Way of Thinking is edited by David Ball and Martha Kuhlman. Ball tells Alison Cuddy more about the collection.
