As a young man in East L.A, author Robert Renteriawas a high school drop-out and a criminal. At 17, he learned that his long-estranged father, an alcoholic and heroin addict living on skid row, had passed away. Several years later, he finally decided to escape into the U.S. Army as his way out. After several years in the Army, he moved to Chicago. That move and his grit ultimately led to a climb up to the New York Stock Exchange, where he became vice president of a publicly traded company. Robert Renteria discusses his experiences that are compiled in the memoir, From the Barrio to the Board Room.
