We Bid Farewell to a Wizard of Oz Munchkin

One of the last surviving Munchkins from the 1939 Wizard of Oz film died last week in St. Louis, near his hometown. Mickey Carroll was born Michael Finocchiaro. As a young man, he helped support his family by working as a vaudeville actor in Chicago clubs. Two years ago, Carroll made an appearance in Chesterton, Indiana, at the annual Wizard of Oz Festival. Illinois Public Radio's Tom Weber visited with him back then and has this profile.

Mickey Carroll who played Munchkinland's Town Crier in the Wizard of Oz died Thursday at the age of 89.
