Physical Theater actress Sharon Gopfert spent 5 years in Igarassu, a small coastal village in Brazil, building a capoeira school. Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art that incorporates music and dance. Working with impoverished children, she immersed herself in the daily life of this community, especially the role that women play. Next Saturday evening, Gopfert will use a play she’s written to share her personal experiences from that period. She will present her work as part of Too Solo: Tales from the Cultural Rift, next Saturday. Gopfert says her inspirations for art are also her motivations in life.
