A dangerous heat wave is hitting cities across the United States ahead of the July Fourth holiday. Weather Channel meteorologist Mark Elliot joins us to discuss the conditions and precautions people can take. Also, the U.S. border with Canada is the world’s longest international border, yet it receives very little attention. For three years, writer Porter Fox traveled that border and writes about the experience in his new book “Northland.” And as reporters at The Capital Gazette newspaper mourn their colleagues, they are covering a national story about gun violence brought painfully close to home. We speak with Trif Alatzas, publisher and editor-in-chief of the Baltimore Sun Media Group, about how the Gazette newsroom responded to the shooting there last week. That and more, in hour two of Here & Now’s July 3, 2018 full broadcast.
