7 Things To See, Hear And Eat This Weekend

After a week of sunshine and higher temperatures, we might be heading into some cloudy weather and rain this weekend. But don’t worry — there are still plenty of things to do across the city.

Music writer Leor Galil joins the Morning Shift to share his recommendations on concerts, events and eateries across Chicago.

What to see

Chicago Zine Fest - Join more than 250 self-publishers that buy and trade zines and comics at the 10th annual Chicago Zine Fest. The festival kicks off Thursday and ends Saturday. All events are free and open to the public.

Chicago Dogs - Cheer on one the newest members of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball at their opening weekend in Rosemont. The season opener is sold out, but there's plenty more games to enjoy this weekend. And yes, they’re named after Chicago’s favorite and oldest culinary tradition.

What to hear

Chicago Open Air - Rock out to a weekend line-up featuring System of A Down, Tool and more at the SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview. The festival will be held outdoors, rain or shine, Saturday and Sunday.

Tommy Wright III - Catch a performance by the Memphis rap legend at Subterranean Sunday at 7:30 p.m. The show is for adults 17 and older. Tickets are $20.

Pedro the Lion - These indie-rock heroes are putting on a show at Thalia Hall Sunday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25-40.

What to eat

Meet Fresh - Have a sweet tooth? Try this popular Taiwanese dessert chain that opened last year at 2026 S. Clark St. Some treats are so large, they can serve as an entire meal.

The Freeze - Formerly part of the Tastee Freez chain, this family-friendly, grab-and-go spot serves soft-serve ice cream, burgers and other fast food eats at 2815 W. Armitage Ave.
